Ice Spice “Deli”: 10 cent songwriter? 😳 Ice Spice’s 2023 viral TIktok hit is built around a sample that cost only 10 (ten!) cents to clear. The sample came from the Pulsating Techno Splice pack by a mysterious group of producers known as Four4. And while we don’t know exactly who or how many people are splitting the ten cents they earned from “Deli” we do know they aren’t considered songwriters of on Ice Spice’s hit, in spite of the prominence of the sample. 😳 But nobody got ripped off: producers like Four4 simply operate on a different business model. Rather than getting a songwriting split, they make bank via licensed sampling platforms like Splice where tens of thousands of people download their sounds hundreds of thousands of times. And at 10 cents a pop, it adds up fast! 💰By the way you can go ahead and use the same sample as was used on “Deli” if you want: after all “Deli” is one of at least a half dozen commercially released songs that use the exact same sample.
