In the mountains of Nepal, humanitarian cargo drones are helping deliver assistance across the last mile. Recent flash floods damaged roads and bridges, leaving many communities cut off from support. To help reach isolated areas, WFP is using heavy-lift Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in Rasuwa district in northern Nepal, complementing road and helicopter deliveries. Trucks and helicopters carry food as far as roads and conditions allow. Beyond that, humanitarian cargo drones can help cover the final stretch, serving as an aerial bridge to communities isolated by the disaster. By combining trucks, helicopters and unmanned aircrafts, WFP is expanding the reach of its flood response and finding new ways to reach families in remote locations.
